Dolomites holidays: discovering Vigo di Fassa
If you intend spending your holidays in the Dolomites the Val di Fassa is probably one of the most beautiful areas you can visit. The settlement of Vigo di Fassa, in particular, is built on a broad terrace in a position that dominates the whole valley from the Cima Undici to Cima Dodici peaks directly opposite the town, to the Sella, Sassolungo, Sasso Piatto and Marmolada mountains.
Vigo is still the historical centre of Valle di Fassa, which housed the "Giudizio" and the "Pievania" and is now home of the Ladin Museum and the Ladin Cultural Institute (Centre for the study and preservation of Ladin culture). The Ladin language is the official administrative language of the Ladin community of Fassa.
During your Dolomites holidays you can also visit San Giovanni, Larzonei, Vallonga and Tamion, smaller villages which preserve, almost intact, some interesting examples of Ladin architecture.
This locality is the perfect place to spend your holidays in the Dolomites, being, in fact, the starting point for hundreds of hikes and summer activities and the ideal place for lovers of skiing, skating and snowshoeing in winter. A modern cable car, departing directly from the village, in just a few minutes will take you to the natural terrace of Ciampedìe at 2000 m above sea level.
In winter Ciampedìe is the heart and soul of the ski area of the same name, where snow is guaranteed from the end of November thanks to an ultra modern artificial snow machine, making this a perfect period for those who want to spend their holidays in Vigo di Fassa.
